Ladder System Empty
PostSubject: Ladder System   Ladder System Icon_minitimeMon Jun 01, 2009 4:50 am

Well, on the grounds that the casting classes - as well as AA's completely dominate an assault situation (Which leads to them seemingly being better than they are) we're introducing a new system.

Obviously this is -new- and will probabbly need to be changed and tweaked -alot- so we'd appreciate alot of feedback concerning this.

A quick overview:

The outer fort areas (Suman Valley / Rustin Road) have been completely redesigned. They look like forts now - so you wont be standing on a cliff fighting people below and pretending to be defending a fort.

Each assault area has a few places in which it is possible to lay a ladder. Provided you have an assault ladder kit in your inventory. (These will either be bought, or crafted - we havent decided yet).

These will only become visible when the guard nearest them is killed. (You wouldnt want to set a ladder while a guard is right above you now, would you?)

Once you have layed a ladder, you are able to climb it - and are up unto the defenders walls! Sounds easy, right? I'll bet you're thinking how does this help other classes in PvP?

Well, the specifics are as follows:

When you are laying a ladder, you are cutscene paralyzed. That is you cannot move and you cannot perform any action. You cannot defend yourself at all. You are able to break from laying a ladder (By clicking the 'ghostly ladder placeable'), but all progress in laying the ladder is lost.

The time we're using to lay a ladder is 5 rounds. Obviously this will be one of the things that will change alot. It's a pretty long time to be left that vulnerable - but certain levels in classes will reduce that time.

For every 10 levels (Total) in the following classes your laying time is reduced by one round:

Barbarian
Blackguard
Champion Of Torm
Dwarven Defender
Fighter
Harper
Paladin
Ranger
Weapon Master

For every 20 levels (Total) in the following classes, your laying time is reduced by one round:

Assassin
Bard
Druid
Monk
Rogue
Shadow Dancer
Shifter

Now, that means that some classes - the 'weaker' assaulting classes espescially will now be usefull in an assault since they can lay ladders quicker.

But that's not just it, we cant make it too easy for the attackers. Climbing a ladder takes time as well. The base of which, is again 5 rounds.

You may cease climbing at anytime, but you lose all progress. You will also suffer damage and fall prone if you are more than 40% up the ladder.

For every 10 levels (Total) in the following classes you gain a -1 round in climbing:

Assassin (An assassin with 20+ levels is able to climb instantly)
Barbarian (Barbarian's therefore climb faster than fighters)
Harper
Monk (A monk with 30+ levels is able to climb instantly)
Ranger (A ranger with 25+ levels is able to climb instantly)
Rogue (A rogue with 30+ levels is able to climb instantly)
Shadow Dancer (A shadow dancer with 20+ levels is able to climb instantly)
Shifter (Polymorphed creatures cannot climb ladders)

For every 20 levels (Total) in the following classes, you gain a -1 round in climbing:

Bard
Blackguard
Champion of Torm
Druid
Dwarven Defender
Fighter
Paladin
Palemaster
Weapon Master.

Other things of note:

You are able to jump down from the walls, to the outside of the fort - however this causes 2 rounds of knockdown, or another disabling effect if you are knockdown immun. Defenders are also able to do this.
Ladders have no damage resistance.
Ladders have a HP of 1000
If a ladder is destroyed and someone is climbing the ladder, the climber suffers bludgeoning damage dependant on how far up the ladder he has travelled and suffers knockdown for one round to simulate the fall. (2d20 for every 20% up the ladder the climber is, - his dexterity modifier.)
Only one ladder can be layed per point, up until it is destroyed.
Only one person can climb a ladder at any one time.
